Rachel Reeves has announced that trade deals with China will raise £600m over the next five years. I'm not going to knock any attempt to help UK business but let's keep a bit of perspective. The UK could easily generate more than £600m in just one year by imposing duty on direct Chinese imports i.e. Temu, Shein and their ilk. By way of comparison imposing VAT on Online Marketplaces brought in £1.5 billion EVERY year. Tax imports. Protect UK business.
